Canada’s global economic competitiveness depends on making new discoveries and transforming them into products, services and processes that improve the lives of Canadians. To meet this challenge, the Networks of Centres of Excellence offers a suite of programs that mobilize Canada’s best research, development and entrepreneurial expertise and focus it on specific issues and strategic areas.
Networks of Centres of Excellence address Canada’s needs to focus a critical mass of research resources on social and economic challenges, commercialize and apply more of its homegrown research breakthroughs, increase private-sector research and development, and train highly qualified people.
By harnessing the best talent in the natural sciences, engineering, social sciences and health sciences, Networks of Centres of Excellence programs help build a more advanced, healthy, competitive and prosperous country bringing together the right mix of people and organizations to address important issues for Canadians.
In 2018, the Government announced the consolidation of the Centres of Excellence for Commercialization and Research and the Business-led Networks of Centres of Excellence programs with the Strategic Innovation Fund. Innovation Canada is working with the Networks of Centres of Excellence to implement these changes with minimal disruption to organizations currently funded by these two Centres of Excellence programs.
